Ti Kuan Yin Select

Ti Kuan Yin Select

The torture continues. I held out some hope for Mighty Leaf’s Ti Kuan Yin Select after tasting a few of their other teas, and while it’s not craptastic, the “select” moniker doesn’t really fit.

Ti Kuan Yin Select Teacup For all I know, this could be a ben shan-adulterated tie guan yin, too. Its flavor was enjoyable, but relatively unstriking. Honey touched down a few times; otherwise the taste seemed to fall somewhere between the Jin Guan Yin and Gan De I reviewed earlier in the week, though it lacked their clarity. It had a slight rose thing going, along with an agreeable sweetness.

I got this as part of Mighty Leaf’s Private Reserve sample pack collection. A couple of the teas were good, but the name is pretty silly considering the general quality of the selections and the fact that a company like Mighty Leaf almost certainly isn’t keeping anything in private reserve. As far as the TKY Select itself goes, for $7-10 an ounce (not clear which it is), I’d rather have virtually any oolong at Floating Leaves, where the term private reserve actually holds some meaning.

    “The torture continues.”

So why are you doing it? Come to the dark side already.

Mostly just to amuse myself I guess. I like picking a type of tea and sampling a bunch in succession–I feel I gain more perspective that way, since both the good and bad stand out more.

The dark side’s sweet whisper has been steadily gaining.

I recently reviewed a Ti Kuan Yin from Adagio. Let me know if you’ve had it. I liked it a lot for the price http://bit.ly/19H6pB
