The other green TGY from Jing Tea Shop’s Long Juan set is Organic Jin Guan Yin. As the name might suggest, it’s a mix of Huang Jin Gui and Tie Guan Yin. According to ts description it shows more HJG character, and I concur.
The same parameters from yesterday delivered up a satisfying session. The opening infusion was floral and very sugary, the second carrot-sweet and -flavorful. I don’t often see so much sweetness in the initial infusions, and it washed away quickly, leaving behind a carousel of napa cabbage, iceberg lettuce, and white grape.
My mind settled on this arrangement of produce to describe what I was tasting because the vegetal shadings
were much more open and watery than in yesterday’s tea, which was more pungent, distinct, and savory. This consistent veg-floral mixture spilled from the gaiwan all the way through the tenth infusion and, like the Hong Xin, it could have gone longer with minimal pushing. I just couldn’t push myself to drink more than 20 ounces.
I don’t usually get all that excited for Huang Jin Gui’s ethereal floweriness, but this Jin Guan Yin was a nice tea. I haven’t sat down for a direct comparison, but I think I like it considerably more than Jing’s Winter HJG.
