Jin Guan Yin

Jin Guan Yin

The other green TGY from Jing Tea Shop’s Long Juan set is Organic Jin Guan Yin. As the name might suggest, it’s a mix of Huang Jin Gui and Tie Guan Yin. According to ts description it shows more HJG character, and I concur.

Jin Guan Yin OolongThe same parameters from yesterday delivered up a satisfying session. The opening infusion was floral and very sugary, the second carrot-sweet and -flavorful. I don’t often see so much sweetness in the initial infusions, and it washed away quickly, leaving behind a carousel of napa cabbage, iceberg lettuce, and white grape.

My mind settled on this arrangement of produce to describe what I was tasting because the vegetal shadings Jin Guan Yin Spent Leaves were much more open and watery than in yesterday’s tea, which was more pungent, distinct, and savory. This consistent veg-floral mixture spilled from the gaiwan all the way through the tenth infusion and, like the Hong Xin, it could have gone longer with minimal pushing. I just couldn’t push myself to drink more than 20 ounces.

I don’t usually get all that excited for Huang Jin Gui’s ethereal floweriness, but this Jin Guan Yin was a nice tea. I haven’t sat down for a direct comparison, but I think I like it considerably more than Jing’s Winter HJG.
